Outdoor Oriented Lifestyle Choices:

Playas Pacificas is a residential community,
not a destination resort - facilities
are designed to support resident lifestyle choices, rather than be attractions in
themselves. Residents' activities will be enhanced by marine services, launch
facilities and trailer parking for the fishing community, and limited ATV and aquatic
equipment rentals. Space has been also allocated for a community center
(to be designed by the homeowners themselves), in addition to the social amenities
at the planned hotel/beach club.
Further use will be made of the parent property, Rancho la Aguja, to support both
the lifestyle decisions of the community, and to add value to their investment.
The ranch already has a large organic garden, with plans for expansion. We have a
concept of a vineyard with winery, perhaps in concert with an agave plantation.
Playas will continue to evolve with its community.

Swimming & Tidepools:

Coastal living in Playas Pacificas
is enhanced by the fact that we have one of
the two safe beaches on the entire southern Pacific Coast. The South Beach at the
point slopes gradually with none of the usual Pacific-side undertow or rip
currents. Even children may swim safely here (under supervision of course).
Low tide at Playas' rocky point provides an exploration paradise for all ages.
Not only does the low tide provide access to extensive marine habitat with tropical
fish, exotic shells and at least 5 species of crabs, but it leaves tide-pools
warmed by the Baja sun that are perfect for those who like to swim in calmer
waters than the open beaches.

Hiking & Birdwatching:

Rancho la Aguja is surrounded
by an immense landscape of mesas and cardonales (cardon cactus forests). The coastal area is largely uninhabited, and the hiker or biker
can choose from endless beaches, trips through the cardonal forests, or
less-challenging walks up the Arroyo La Aguja itself (which stretches way beyond the Transpeninsular
Highway). There are several species of deer that may be seen, small members of the
wildcat family, badgers, racoons, rabbits and hares, and innumerable types of birds.

Some 30 miles directly west
of Playas Pacificas / Rancho la Aguja, unreachable
from Los Cabos or Todos Santos due to distance (and thus largely unexploited),
are the seamounts named the
Lusitania Banks
- as the profile shows, the
surrounding Pacific seabed climbs abruptly from depths of over 2 miles to within
45 feet of the surface. Due to their inaccessibility, the Banks offer one of the
most untouched fishing areas in all of Baja.
Rancho La Aguja has a sheltered
beach well-suited to surf-launching, together with marine support facilities and
secured boat / trailer parking with launching assistance.

Surfing & Kayaking:

The beach at Rancho la Aguja
does not offer a a consistent surfing break…
although an increasing number of locally-based surfers visit our south beach
whenever there is a southerly swell. The consensus is that in these conditions,
the break is as good as any to be found on this section of the coast. The most
reliable and consistent surfing break is found at Punta Conejo, 14 kilometers to
the north along the coast road.

Apart from the coastal road itself,
which stretches from Todos Santos to San
Carlos on Bahia Magdalena, there are innumerable old trails, roads and arroyos
of varying difficulty that may be explored. The Baja 1000 race route is directly
outside the ranch main gate.
